Men United in Song

Be part of an ‘incredible journey’…

Peterborough Male Voice Choir aims to make singing accessible to as many men as possible and since 2010 their phenomenally successful pop-up community singing projects Sing for Heroes and later Men United in Song have introduced hundreds of local men to the joys of group singing, providing an influx of new singers and raising many thousands of pounds for the project’s charity partner - currently Prostate Cancer UK - in the process.

Year on year, we see men of all ages from different walks of life get stuck into this project and give it their all, producing fantastic results over a short period of time in terms of the progress they make, the sound they produce and the money they raise for charity. It’s a pleasure and a privilege to work with them!
— William Prideaux, director

Each year Men United in Song signs up 40 local men, most of them with little or no previous singing experience, to rehearse over ten weeks for a live performance charity event. The project aims to be inclusive of as diverse a cross-section of the community as possible regardless of age, cultural, social or economic background, and in particular aims to reach men who might not normally have considered singing to be for them and get them to jump in and give it a try!

Men United in Song has inspired me to carry on singing. We were just a bunch of ordinary guys from all walks of life, most of us had never sung in a choir before, and we sounded awesome! This is something all men should try once in their lives and it’s raising money for a great cause too!

Paul, Yaxley

The whole experience was extremely rewarding and exciting. You get to see what your voice is really capable of and to share a few pints with a great bunch of guys from all walks of life, who you might not normally meet. The sense of achievement when you finally get to perform in front of an audience in the concert is amazing. I couldn’t recommend it highly enough.
— Stuart, Bourne

There are as many reasons for getting involved in Men United in Song as there are men who take part: singing has a host of well-documented health and wellbeing benefits, there’s a fantastic social scene, and the chance to meet people you wouldn't normally meet and discover music you wouldn't usually experience. Plus of course there’s the charitable side of the project and the opportunity to give something back to the community, as well as to challenge yourself and try something new - all without signing your life away!

We hope this page will inspire you to get involved and give singing a try…that’s what Men United in Song is all about! If you’re interested in taking part in our next project please don’t hesitate to get in touch so we can keep you informed, we’d love to hear from you!
